I want to give you some information about this pattern;

Materials Used – for 2 elves

 4 ply cotton x 50 gram – skin colour, red and

green

 4 ply cotton yarn x small quantity, white,

yellow, black

Size 2.5 mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle

16 mm safety eyes

Fiberfill

Stitch marker x 2

3 x bells for each elf

If you are wiring – 1.5 metres of electrical wire

– 3mm round, available from hardware store

and 1 metre of tape – Elastoplast roll or

similar bandage tape, available from chemist

Size

24 cm in height with 3 mm hook

20 cm in height with 2.5 mm hook

For toys, its best to use a smaller hook size

than yarn normally suggests in order to keep the stitches close and reduce stuffing showing

Gauge

Gauge is not critical to this project.

 Different yarn type and different ply will

change size.

Stitches Used – US Terminology

Sc – single crochet

Fl – front loops

Bl – back loops

Ch – chain

2 sc in next sc – sc increase

2 hdc in next – hdc increase

Sc 2 tog- sc decrease

Sl st – slip stitch

Hdc – half double crochet

 Dc – double crochet

This piece works equally well if not wired

Glove and Arm (Make 2) with colour of choice

Thumb

R1. Ch 2, Sc 5 in second chain from hook, or magic circle 5 sc – 5 sc

R2-3. Sc in each sc – 5 sc

Fasten off.

Glove

R1. Ch 4, starting in second chain from hook, sc in each of the

next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, continuing on opposite side of

chain, sc in each of the next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc – 10 sc

R2-3. Sc in each sc – 10 sc

Joining thumb to glove

R4. Sc thumb to hand, sc around thumb, sc across to glove, sc

around glove 10 sc – 15 sc

R5. Sc in each sc – 15 sc

R6. (Sc 3, sc 2 tog) –12 sc

R7. (Sc 2, sc 2 tog) – 9 sc

R8-9. Sc in each sc – 9 sc

Fasten off, weave in ends, prepare wire and insert wire into glove. 1 piece of wire long enough to curve around glove

and back to wrist and arm. Tape piece together at wrist. Approx 20 cms of wire. Fill glove lightly. Crochet arm around

wire.

R10. Sl st into any back loop from R9, sc in back loops only – 9 sc

R11-18 Sc in each sc – 9 sc

Fill lightly without stretching stitches

R19. (Sc 2 tog) x 2, sc in next 5 sc – 5 sc

Fasten off, leaving long tail, to sew to body. Put aside until body completed.

Shoes and Legs – with colour of choice – make 2

R1. Ch 2, 4 sc into second chain from hook, or magic circle 4 sc

R2. Sc in each sc – 4 sc

R3. 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc – 5 sc

R4. 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc – 6 sc

R5. 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 5 sc – 7 sc

R6. (2 sc in next sc) x 2 sc in each of next 5 sc – 9 sc

R7. (2 sc in next sc) x 2 sc in each of next 7 sc – 11 sc

R8. (2 sc in next sc) x 2 sc in each of next 9 sc – 13 sc

R15-17. Turn, ch 1, sc in same ch space, sc in each of sc – 15 sc

R20. Ch 1 turn (sc in each of next 3 sc, sc 2 tog) – 8 sc

Fasten off and sew up back

For shoe with roll down cuff

R21. Pick up 12 stitches around opening, starting from centre front, ch 1, turn – 12 sc

R22. Sc in front loops only for next 12 sc – 12 sc

R23-24. Turn, ch 1, sc in each sc – 12sc

For Shoe with Petals

R21a. Pick up 12 stitches around opening, sl st to close round – 12 sc

R22a. Sc in front loops only for next 12 sc – 12 sc

Fasten off yarn.

For Both Elves

Change to leg colour and work in rounds. If working in stripes change colour every 2 rows.

If doing leggings, work stripes for 8 rows, then solid colour for rest.

R25. Fold down cuff, sl st into any back loops from R22, sc in

each sc – 12 sc

R26. (Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2 tog) – 9 sc

R27-38. Sc in each sc – 9 sc

If using wire, prepare and insert wire for leg. Approx 30 cm of wire,

curved at the toe and taped. Leave enough wire at top of leg, to

secure both leg wires together in body. The wire for the body, will

be fastened to these combined wires. Continue to fill as you go.

Leave long tail from first leg to sew up gap between legs. Fill lightly

without stretching stitches

We are now Joining legs at side centre with 3 ch between each leg

– 24 sc. If continuing stripes from legs, change colour every 2 rows

until back loop R49. If not, use main colour.

If you would prefer to sew the legs to the body, rather than crochet them as one piece with the body, complete these

rows after R38.

R38a. In body colour, Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook, or magic circle 6 sc – 6 sc

R38b. 2 sc in each sc – 12 sc

R38c. (sc in each of next 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc) – 18 sc

Continue from R39 to finish of piece

R39. In colour of choice, sl/st into middle inner side centre (use markers to find your inner centre) 3 ch, sc to join

second leg at middle inner side centre, sc across second leg, 3 ch, sc to rejoin first leg next to original join, sc

Check legs are aligned before continuing
