Amigurumi Crocodile Recipe (2022)
Crocodiles have been around for more than 200 million
years, with some mighty species growing as large as six
metres (20 feet) long. Famously, crocodiles stay perfectly still
in the murky water waiting for the opportune moment to snap
their toothy jaws on their prey. Some even go the extra mile
and use sticks and twigs to lure birds into landing on their
snouts – then snap them up for a nice snack. Other species
can take on sharks and climb trees … wow! I wouldn’t want to
get too close to this apex predator, except in cuddly toy form,
of course!

FUN FACT
If a crocodile loses a tooth, there’s
always another one ready to fill
the gap. In fact, crocodiles can go
through thousands of teeth in their
lifetime!
Tension (gauge)
Tension is not critical for this project, but if you want to match the
pattern shown here, make a small circular swatch using the chosen
yarn and hook (see Tools and materials: Tension swatch for the
swatch pattern).
When made in DK weight cotton with a 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook
the swatch should measure 3.5cm (1⅜in) across.
Project notes
The crocodile’s body is made in
one piece, starting at the tip of the
tail. The jaws are split into two
sections with a chain and are
worked separately. A red oval
inner mouth completes the body.
Decorative spikes and teeth are
sewn on at the end.
Body
Make 1 in Green yarn with a 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook.
